HII – Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.

HII - MDIS is currently seeking an Engineer to support a training systems innovation team within the Operational Training Infrastructure Branch in the Simulators Program Office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. This position will support the Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) effort.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • Support the analysis of potential innovative technologies (i.e., cloud and edge computing, Virtual/Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, etc.) that could be leveraged in the U.S. Air Force training system portfolio.

  • Determine the feasibility and need for these technologies in coordination with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), industry, multiple program teams, and Major Commands across the Air Force.

  • Provide Market Research assessments, industry analysis including research trends in order to inform the government team, the acquisition strategies, and potential standards and technologies to be incorporated into simulators.

  • Draft a technology roadmap to guide future USAF training system acquisitions and technology development.

  • Assist in drafting acquisition decision documentation that address operational capability needs, technology transition opportunities, acquisition strategy, and courses of action (COAs).

  • Draft contract pre-solicitation documentation for a prototype development and provide independent analysis. Support industry day activities, evaluate white papers, and support prototype source selections as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required –

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or relevant field plus 5 years of functional experience, OR an associate's degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience.

  • Experience in simulator development, production, and sustainment

  • Knowledge of aircraft weapon system simulations including avionics, operational flight programs, aircraft subsystems, and sensors.

  • Knowledge and experience with operating systems/hypervisors; hardware/software architectures; networking (LAN/WAN); cloud storage/processing technologies

Preferred –

  • USAF experience in operations, training, research and/or systems acquisition

  • Knowledge of flight simulator environment representations including out the window visual simulation and associated databases, threat simulations, electronic warfare environment, and associated databases.

  • Understanding of issues that surround common applications and specifically those issues relevant to the training and simulation community.

  • Experience in applying information systems security principles, concepts, and methods for operational Air Force or DoD information systems.

  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools

Security:

  • All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.

  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance.
