HII – Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.

HII - MDIS is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to work out of their Virginia Beach, VA office.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • Develop “Fit-for-Purpose Architectural Descriptions through data collection and the use of models and viewpoints.

  • Develop Equipment and System Level Diagnostics for unique hardware components within the target Combat System Suite.

  • Develop Common Display products and practices for use across the Navy’s Combat System Enterprise.

  • Analyze system software requirements to identify the hardware requirements for the proper operation of the system software in its target operational environment.

  • Recommend hardware solutions to meet systems software requirements and support future upgrades.

  • Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. An office work environment is normally encountered.

  • May occasionally require working in an industrial or shipboard environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required –

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of full-time professional experience in Systems Engineering.

  • Three (3) of these years must have been full-time experience at the system level in any of the following areas: Senior level Engineering requirements definition, system design parameters, concepts operation, risk assessment, producibility studies / analyses, test and evaluation, post-delivery support; Systems Engineering of complex engineering project requiring task effort monitoring through Cost Schedule and Deliverable status determination and skilled in Risk Mitigation practices.

  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy surface ship combat systems and embedded training systems such as AN/USQ-T46 (V) BFTT System, AN/USQ-T48 (V) Trainer, AN/USQ-T47 BFTT Electronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT), Simulator/Stimulator Systems (TSSS), Damage Control Training Management System (DCTMS), Navigation Seamanship and Ship Handling Trainer (NSST) on various classes of ships.

  • Experience with managing C4ISR shipboard projects of varying complexity.

  • Experience in scheduling and identifying activities in accordance with 9090.310 as required for system upgrades/modifications, and new system installations.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9000, Navy Quality Management and Navy Standard Items.

  • 10 years relevant (DoD/USN) experience with Bachelor's degree; OR 8 years’ relevant experience with Master's degree; OR an additional 4 years of specific job experience with a HS diploma may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this job. This experience is in addition to the relevant years of experience listed with the job's experience requirements.

  • Travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred –

  • Previous experience interfacing with the NSWC and NAVSEA customers.

  • Familiarity with Surface Force Readiness Manual (SFRM), Surface Force Exercise Manual (SFEM) and use of the Master Scheduling Program (MSP).

  • Familiarity with both shore and shipboard training exercises and FST distributed events.

  • Multiple tours on naval ships.

  • Familiarity with the Optimized Fleet Response Plan (OFRP), Fleet Response Training Plan (FRTP), and fleet training policy documents, including the Fleet Training Continuum (FTC).

  • Recent experience in FST events, naval exercises, and exercise/event planning.

  • U.S. citizen with current DoD Secret Clearance is required.
