HII - Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.
HII-MDIS is currently seeking a Software Developer to work at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Information Directorate in Rome, NY.
The role will be to define and evolve a reference architecture for the Air Force Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) initiative. The SCARS initiative, managed by the Air Force Simulator Program Office (AFLCMC/WNS) is meant to apply current and emerging cloud processing technologies to simulation devices to enhance capabilities, improve life cycle support, and improve the cybersecurity posture of the Air Force training enterprise.
Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):
Work with Software Architect to design, implement and rapidly prototype SAAS and PAAS patterns on AFRL “cloud computing” testbed environment.
Analyze reference architecture designs and decompose into common PAAS, SAAS, web services, logic that can be containerized, and evaluate opportunities for logic that can be implemented via “serverless computing”.
Include considerations for Commercial Off-the-Shelf and open source software packages (e.g. install in VM and configure)
Implement pilot projects
Participate in studies and pilot projects, support Software Architect and Software Application Analyst
Stand up, install and configure services
Qualifications and Experience :
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
Experience in software coding for real-time systems, simulation, modular/open architectures, networking, hypervisors, containers, and cloud computing technologies. Understanding of security controls defined in the NIST Risk Management Framework.
Experience implementing software in a cloud computing environment leveraging PAAS and SAAS capabilities and enterprise design patterns.
Experience with Agile software development methodologies and tools.
- A background in flight simulation software development.

Ability to attain and hold a Secret level clearance.
