HII – Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.

HII - MDIS is currently seeking a Database Specialist III to work out of their Kearneysville, WV office.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • Develop, implement and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL

  • Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements

  • Develop procedures and scripts for data migration

  • Provide guidance and support to Application Developers

  • Assist with schema design, code review, SQL query tuning

  • Install, tune, implement and upgrade DBMS installations

  • Write and deploy SQL patches

  • Upgrade and improve application schema and data upgrades

  • Process work accurately and in a timely manner

  • Pay attention to detail at all times

  • Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements

  • Perform database backup and recovery activities

  • Perform database tuning

  • Monitor database performance

  • Create ad-hoc reports

  • Perform data update and data refresh

  • Maintain/create database maintenance plans and scheduled jobs

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's DegreeMinimum Experience: 6 years

  • Provides all activities related to the administration of computerized databases.

  • Able to communicate with management, technicians, and end-users to evaluate need prior to development of an automated solution.

  • Prepares detailed reports which might include system requirements such as concurrent usage factors, data storage requirements, response rates, and discuss procedures for processing data through the use of database management systems (DBMS) including relational databases.

  • Projects long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.

  • Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.

  • Conducts quality control and auditing of databases in a client/server environment to ensure the accurate and appropriate use of data.

  • Advises users on access to various client/server databases.

  • Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.

  • Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end (e.g., COGNOS)/back-end programming languages (e.g.,SQL).

  • Performs database programming and supports systems design.

  • Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design.

  • Evaluates data base design tradeoffs, impacts on user expectations, performance levels, and space allocation requirements.

  • Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust clearance
