HII - MDIS is currently seeking a Scientist V to work onsite in Fort Detrick, Maryland.

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon assignments and other factors.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • The contractor shall provide scientific/technology advice, technical oversight, and project management support in the areas of science and technology availability, technology maturity, and applicability of proposed candidate CBRN medical countermeasures through advanced development, production, and fielding. Support is to be at a level commensurate with the educational requirements for the position.

  • The contractor shall demonstrate proficiency in current good laboratory procedures; FDA Animal Rule requirements, application procedures, and implementation; FDA requirements for IND and NDA submissions, approvals, and licensure; preparation for and conduct of DA Type A, B, and C meetingsl and FDA qualification of drug development tools.

  • The contractor shall provide technical knowledge to guide the product team in establishing a link between clnical and non-clinical efficacy, developing a robust manufactuing strategy, and defining product development schedules.

  • The contractor shall provide technical input to acquistion documentation and presentations in support of major milestones, program reviews, or other program presentations.

  • The contractor shall develop drafts and assist the project team to coordinate responsibilities, oversee quality management, and encourage timeliness of completion of protocols, IND applications, other regulatory submissions, and technical reports.

Qualifications and Experience :

Required –

  • Standard Requirement: The contractor shall possess a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Biochemical Engineering with extensive knowledge (topic of PhD thesis or key member of a team that successfully brought a vaccine to FDA licensure) of Virology or Vaccinology, or a related discipline, as well as fifteen (15) years of general experience and ten (10) years of relevant experience.

  • Tradeoff Requirement: The contractor shall possess a Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Biochemical Engineering with extensive knowledge (topic of PhD thesis or key member of a team that successfully brought a vaccine to FDA licensure) of Virology or Vaccinology, or a related discipline, as well as twenty (20) years of general experience and fifteen (15) years of relevant experience.

  • The contractor shall possess senior level experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology vaccine and drug development portfolio management (i.e., investment decisions based on the risk management process).

  • The contractor shall possess the ability to work on a multi-disciplined team in a DoD acquisition environment.

  • The contractor shall possess the ability to perform mulitple task simultaneously and rapidly redirect efforts based on changing requirements.

  • That contractor shall possess strong writing and oral communication skills.

Security :

  • Candidate must possess and be able to maintain a government security clearance at the Secret level.

  • The selected applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.
