HII – Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.

HII - MDIS is currently seeking a part-time, on-call F 16 Training Subject Matter Expert (SME) to work at Buckley Air Force Base, CO.

The Air National Guard supports the Air Force’s Operational Training Infrastructure (OTI) 2035 Flight Plan and the Enterprise Range Plan (ERP). The USAF OTI vision is to provide a realistic, integrated training environment that allows forces to train in mission relevant employment schemes to achieve and sustain full-spectrum readiness. The ERP is an overarching document to improve the live training range enterprise and support emerging training requirements. The OTI flight plan and the ERP are complementary documents with the OTI flight plan providing context for the direction of the ERP, while the ERP provides credible pathways toward the plan’s realization. Key to the success of OTI and ERP efforts are the integration of live, virtual, constructive (LVC) enablers and Live Mission Operations Capability (LMOC) enablers. Fourth/Fifth generation simulator operations and training provide mission capabilities that support USAF LVC and LMOC infrastructure integral to the success OTI and ERP plans. The 140th Fighter Wing supports 4th/5th generation simulator operations and training with F-16C Multi-task Trainers (MTT) Guard devices located at Buckley AFB, CO.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • The candidate will be responsible for managing simulator console operations, scenario development, and scenario management.

  • The candidate will document the training plans, execution, and results of all exercises.

  • The candidate will perform basic troubleshooting on simulators.

  • The candidate will brief, lead missions, and debrief using current Combat Air Force and host unit standards as flight lead and/or evaluator and/or instructor of record.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Must have a minimum of five hundred (500) hours air-to-air and air-to-ground flight experience as an Instructor Pilot (F-16, F-15, F-18, F-22, or comparable aircraft) or have been previously qualified as a cockpit qualified, training device contract instructor in the F-16.

  • Must be a current/qualified fighter flight lead (or currently serving in that capacity as a simulator SME.) or have previous fighter experience and be able to execute missions using current Combat Air Force and host unit standards as a wingman.

  • Must have been qualified in the above listed fighter aircraft within the last four years, or qualified as a contract cockpit qualified instructor in the preceding two years.

  • Must maintain flight lead qualification via a documented and routine evaluation process.

  • Must be proficient with simulator hardware and have basic troubleshooting capabilities.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products.

  • Experience with basic Combat Air Force mission planning processes, tools, and standards.

  • Secret Clearance

Preferred –

  • More than one thousand (1,000) flying hours in the F-16.

  • F-16 flight lead experience.

  • Experience as an academic platform instructor.

  • Experience as a training device (simulator) instructor.

  • Experience as an FTU flight instructor.

  • Currently qualified Flight Examiner.

Security :

  • All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.

  • All candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI and SAP eligibility. Active Secret required for consideration.
